The Akira Project

Remember when director, Jaume Collet-Serra tried to make an all-white cast, live action of AKIRA? Well, thankfully it was shut down because the $90 million budget was too much money for an ‘odd-ball’ remake so they say…

Live action movies are a touchy thing. Most of them turn out badly (in my opinion) and yet, fan-made live action always seems to come out AMAZING! Why is that?! Give these people money to make stuff, dammit!!

To add to my long list of amazing fan-made pieces, I give you The Akira Project. It’s fan-made, crowd-sourced, non-profit and EXACTLY what a live action of AKIRA should be.

It’s the brain child of two friends who wanted to do AKIRA justice and began going about making it a reality. Which they did after a year and a half of post-production with a wicked looking trailer shot in Montreal, QC in late 2012.

Seriously, they’ve brought Kaneda’s bike to life! Speaking of Kaneda, they’ve cast Osric Chau in the iconic role! You’ll remember Osric as the beloved ‘Kevin’ character in Supernatural.

Watch the trailer, go and fund them, let’s make this a full length feature film and show Hollywood how we REALLY do anime!!
