Will #DomeStory Bring the Intrigue Back into Live TV Viewing?
Under the Dome, a new sci-fi summer TV series adapted from the Stephen King novel, premieres tonight on CBS and Global – but there’s more.
Global TV is testing the waters in what appears to be a bid to incorporate live-tweeting, and fan fiction into a parallel viewing experience. This isn’t so fancy that viewers tweets determine actual events in the story – but encourages viewers to participate in creating a story based on the events in the live show together using #DomeStory.
The top 5 tweets selected will become part of the official story and one winning tweet will be announced each week before a new episode airs.
I’m intrigued, this could be a lot of fun and a cool new way to harness the creativity and excitement that fan community bring to the experience of a show. I also think the success of #DomeStory will all hinge on how engaging the TV show side of Under the Dome turns out to be and how the story is moderated. Either way – I’m interested to see how this turns out.
Are you interested in playing a fan-fiction game on twitter with a TV show? Will you give #DomeStory and Under the Dome a try? Both kick off Monday, June 24th at 10 pm!
I think it could be fantastic – I’m just sorry they’re not getting more engagement.
