Ways Incredible Cosplays Can Blow Your Mind

Cosplaying is a fun activity that almost anyone can do, and that many people go all out for. While most people would love to dress as their favorite characters or in a similar style, often this is the realm of the super fan. The following are a few ways people go above and beyond the call of duty in the world of cosplaying.

Group Cosplay

There’s nothing wrong with a solitary hero or villain who can engage an entire room, if not an entire world, flying completely solo. But at the same time, there’s a definite power about having an entire group that works together. Ask any cheerleader, and they’ll likely agree that as a group they can inspire far more spirit than any one of them could alone. This goes well with the cosplay genre in a lot of ways.

There are plenty of couples costumes that simply wouldn’t work singly, but when an entire group goes all out it’s a thing of true awesomeness. Imagine Darth Vader flanked by an entire group of storm troopers, escorting a handcuffed Leia while C-3PO hobbles behind playing the Imperial March, and you’ll have an idea how amazing such an event would be.

The Sophisticated Use of Handheld Props

It takes a certain kind of person to play Quiddich while dragging a broom behind them. It takes someone a little higher up the dedication totem pole to craft a custom implement with realistic textures and even moving and light-up parts.

The kind of fan who spends the time necessary to solve all of these problems could almost throw together the rest of his or her ensemble at the last minute, because all eyes go to a truly great weapon first. Other handheld items can also be amazing, but walking into the room with a glaive or lightsaber that looks legit can excuse a lot more than a pokeball or a gnarled staff.

Intricate Makeup Work

Some actors will spend three hours a day in the makeup chair before they even get onto the set. While no one pays most cosplayers, some will happily make themselves into a canvas for the makeup artist in their life. A few of the most detailed types will actually apply hours of makeup and custom-made appliances to their own faces, hands and other exposed skin.

Attached Body Props

A great handheld prop is lovely, but at least you can set that down. With an attached prop, when you’re in costume you are in the prop. This is interesting when you dress up as a fairy or a member of the Borg from Star Trek, but it can get downright crazy if you go for a more intricate piece that moves with you and takes up a lot of space. There is a period of adjustment before you become fluid with the props, but the end result is often very worthwhile.

Cosplaying can go to a lot of different levels. At the top level, it can be a truly amazing endeavor. Are you a cosplayer? What’s your favorite costume for conventions?
