The Toronto Comics Show is Coming!
In a city that sees new conventions all the time, the Toronto Comics Show is “a return to grassroots comic book shows”. The first show kicks off this Sunday June 1st, and the organizers are planning to make it a monthly affair. With a 23 vendors and artists, the convention has plenty to see for its $5 admission and comic fans will be able to buy, sell, and trade their books as well as get art commissioned. Bring your sketchbooks and that CGC that doesn’t really belong in your collection, because this show is all about comics.
While Toronto’s pop culture conventions are growing increasingly larger and more complex, integrating everything from video games to horror films, Toronto Comics Show is aiming to stay true the idea of a “comiccon”. Show organizer and owner of Paradise Comics Peter Dixon says, “this is a show for comics fans to go and enjoy comics and not have to worry about footing the bill for celebrities and other non-comics activities which most shows have evolved into”. He is pleased to be working on a show that will allow fans to interact with artists and each other without the hindrances of larger shows, and he is also excited to return the focus to comics.
