The Pyramid Trailer Released
Mummies and ancient Egyptian curses have freaked people out since the dawn of time and remain some of the oldest stories told in the history books. From King Tut to the Pyramids – it’s safe to say that the topic of Ancient Egypt is a favorite among historians and regular people alike. It is a genre that has been tapped into a bit on film with The Mummy series, but compared to other topics like zombies and vampires, has really not gotten it’s due. I was really excited when I found out renowned horror scriptwriter Grégory Levasseur was coming out with his own take on Egyptian curses with the upcoming Pyramid as his directorial debut.
The plot is simple – a team of archaeologists discover a pyramid buried under the Egyptian desert. As they investigate, they get lost in the maze inside the pyramid only to realize they are being hunted by these crazy monsters. I’m not sure what they’re being hunted by, but it sure looks creepy. Pyramids alone are scary. Booby traps, curses, deadly air. Without the crazy evil mummy monsters this movie could have already been scary.
Grégory Levasseur has already proven that he can work wonders with his childhood friend: director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, High Tension, and Mirrors), and I think this will be a cool movie that will show he can do more than just write a great horror script. The movie stars two time SAG award nominee Denis O’Hare (American Horror Story, True Blood, Quarantine) and Ashley Hinshaw (True Blood).
The movie is slated for release December 5, so here’s something to look forward to for the winter. The newer Mummy series was far from scary, and to be honest there hasn’t been a great mummy flick since the original Boris Karloff flick. I doubt this will launch a new trend, but it’ll definitely be a cool flick.
