The Pull List: New Comic Releases and Top 5 for June 18th

There’s a lot of good stuff this week in new comic releases, DC and Marvel are in full summer swing and there are story arcs starting and ending all over the place. This week’s top 5 are titles you may not have thought about picking up, but I think they’re worth a try.

Thunderbolts #27

This issue kicks of a new story arc and a new creative team. Ben Acker and Ben Blacker bring the Thunderbolts face to face with the Punisher. And if that’s not exciting enough, the Avengers also stop by.

 

Batman/ Superman #12

This title examines how Batman and Superman met and in this new story arc, the super team is split up and need to reunite under challenging circumstances. Batman teams up with Lois Lane when Superman goes missing while Selina Kyle encounters a curiously strong stranger…

 

Fables #141

As the epic that is Fables counts down to its final issue, the “Happily Ever After” story arc begins. Rose Red will take on Snow White and Vertigo’s website says that “the two sisters are caught up in the roles Camelot has set for them, and now they’re ready for battle.” Sounds like a dynamic beginning of the end to me.

 

Thomas Alsop #1

Thomas Alsop is the Hand of the Island and charged with protecting New York from various supernatural threats. The job has been passed down to him through generations, but Thomas has to contend with something his ancestors didn’t have to, the reality TV crew that follows him everywhere.

 

Wicked & Devine #1

Jamie McKelvie and Kieron Gillen are reunited to create this ongoing series. Every 90 years the gods reincarnate into famous pop stars, but they only have two years to enjoy their fame before they die and the cycle continues. The previews describe this as a “superhero fantasy”; I describe it as an original concept worthy of attention.
