SuperFan ComicCon

Let’s welcome the new kid on the block. For various reasons (Victoria Day weekend, it’s their first con) you may not have heard of it. But that’s not a reason to underestimate them.

SuperFan ComicCon was held at the Better Living Centre in the Exhibition grounds. This was PERFECT for me as I’m walking distance and I can see it working for them for future Cons as it’s TTC accessible and also has parking in the immediate surrounding area. I think the only problem might be accommodations. They suggest the Radisson Admiral Hotel which is quite far from the convention.

Considering it’s their first convention though, they managed to bring out some celebrity guests, the KITT car and Batmobile, the 501st Legion as well as a good handful of vendors. Some new additions included a vintage arcade area and a wrestling ring. Turns out the wrestling was quite popular! Even I was intrigued and I’m not a huge wrestling fan.

On the Cosplay front, Shelflife had a contest called the Hall of Heroes. You would go to their booth and either take your own iPhone pic in front of their backdrop or you could get a professional photo done for free by Alex of animenorthphotos.com. Then you share the link of your photo with all your friends to get votes for your Cosplay! This was a great idea for all those cosplayers who want professional shots of their outfits as it only cost $5 for a 4×6 and $10 for an 8×10!! Or…you know…you could do what I did and take a DVD of ALL your shots for $40. It’s STILL cheaper than paying for a whole photoshoot.

Keep a lookout for Alex at Anime North as you can imagine by his website address, they’ll be doing the same thing next weekend as well.
