WB reveals the cast of Suicide Squad: Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Tom Hardy (Rick Flagg), Jared Leto (The Joker), Cara Delavingne (Enchantress) and Jai Courtney (Boomerang).

End of Watch‘s David Ayer will direct the film while Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘s Charles Roven and American Hustle‘s Richard Suckle will act as the film’s producers. Zach Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Colin Wilson and Geoff Johns will serve as Suicide Squad‘s executive producers.

Since October reports have been buzzing about the involvement of each cast member for this project, with Robbie becoming the first person to sign. Courtney had been eyeing the role of Deadshot when Smith had been cast; and Leto had been rumoured to star as the Joker after reports made by The Hollywood Reporter. Many reports also suggested that Jesse Eisenberg will reprise his role as Lex Luthor, from the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but that is yet to be confirmed. Variety has also reported that WB is still working on casting Amanda Waller, eyeing Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Oprah Winfrey for the role.

In making the announcement, Greg Silverman, President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production for Warner Bros. Pictures said this:

“The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one. David Ayer returns to the studio where he wrote ‘Training Day’ and brings his incredible ability to craft multidimensional villains to this iconic DC property with a cast of longtime Warner collaborators Will Smith and Tom Hardy, and other new and returning favorites: Margot, Jared, Jai and Cara. We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”

Out of the main cast, Tom Hardy is the only one who is no stranger to the DC movie universe, having already played Bane in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. This is the sixth film adaptation for model-turned-actress Cara Delavingne, who is set to star in Paper Towns, based on John Green’s novel. The actress already had four films in 2014 and two films in 2015 in the works.

Suicide Squad is set to start filming in Toronto in mid-April to September and is slated for an August 5th, 2016 release.
