‘Sinister’ Director Scott Derrickson to Direct ‘Doctor Strange’
In the wake of hiring a replacement for Edgar Wright in Ant-Man, Marvel is going ahead with its next Phase Three film: Doctor Strange.
Variety has reported that Marvel has chosen Sinister director Scott Derrickson to take on Doctor Strange. Derrickson confirmed this as well, via Twitter:
My next movie will be STRANGE: pic.twitter.com/5pdbO6Op6j

Derrickson was on a shortlist of directors that included Pixar’s Brave director Mark Andrews and Warm Bodies‘ Jonathan Levine. Right now, Marvel is currently looking for writers for the project.
Derrickson’s filmography as a director includes Deliver Us From Evil and The Exorcism of Emily Rose. In short, this guy makes scary movies. I guess Marvel is going with a darker and frightening approach to Doctor Strange and I am O.K with that.
Marvel has not been shy teasing Doctor Strange in films like Thor, Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Solider. The company has been trying to get the Sorcerer Supreme on screen for a while now and he’s now finally getting his chance.
Doctor Strange centres around cocky neurosurgeon Stephen Strange who is involved in a dangerous car accident. Left with the nerves on his hand severely damaged, Strange used most of his fortune looking for a cure. After hearing rumours of an ‘Ancient One’, Strange seeks him out in hopes that he will be cured.
