Sherlock Lives – on January 1st!
Oh that cheeky BBC.
Avid fans already know that the next episode of Sherlock is called “The Empty Hearse”, so what better way to advertise its start date than to to actually drive a hearse around London with a floral arrangement reading “Sherlock 01 01 14”? Well, that’s the method they chose along with tweets by both Sherlockology (the award winning fan twitter feed) and by co-creator Mark Gatiss.
Sherlock Holmes, consulting detective. Much missed by friends & family. In *living* memory. Jan 1st 2014! #SherlockLives
— Mark Gatiss (@Markgatiss) November 29, 2013
Sherlockology also confirmed that episode 2, called “The Sign of Three”, will air in the UK on January 5, with the third, and final, episode of Sherlock’s short season, called “His Last Vow”, airing January 12. In October they’d announced the American air date as January 19th for the first episode on PBS’s Masterpiece theatre.
Despite the fact that the BBC managed to simulcast the Doctor Who Anniversary special, it looks like there will be a geographical gap. Which means, to grab a phrase from a Who character, “Spoilers”.
But no matter what day you’re able to watch the premiere, grab your deerstalker hats, cape coats, and cups of tea. It’s time for #SherlockLives!
