Secret of Nimh to be rebooted
The Secret of Nimh is getting a reboot. MGM has acquired the rights to Robert C. O’Brien’s book Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh. It is about a mother field mouse that is looking after her kids. When one of them gets ill. She then goes on a quest to get some medicine to help her son.
Don Bluth, one of the great animators of our time, first adapted the book in 1982. Previously working with Disney, then breaking away to start his own company Don Bluth Productions in 1979. He is the creative mind behind some of our favorite movies, An American Tail (1986), The Land Before Time (1988) and All Dogs go to Heaven (1989). He even gave us Dragon’s Lair (1983) and Space Ace (1984).
MGM has Michael Berg of Ice Age 5 writing the script. And Daniel Bobker and Ehren Kruger will produce it. They are looking to do this film as a live-action/CGI hybrid like the Smurfs. Not sure when they are planning on releasing this, but they are hoping to make it a franchise for themselves.
So yay or nay? What do you folks think of this reboot? Did you like the original, have you seen the original? Have you read the books? Are there other animated movies you would like to see get remade?
