Scares In the City: Toronto After Dark Spotlight Screenings
Toronto After Dark: Pre-Festivial Spotlights
Entering its 8th year, Toronto After Dark Film Festival has overflown its normal October run and is holding two Spotlight screenings. The first was Thursday August 29th while the second is September 26th.
The August screening paired a critter film “Bad Milo” with an anthology film, “V/H/S 2”, whose originator “V/H/S” was shown at last fall’s festival. In September they are pairing the Science Fiction Thriller “Europa Report” with the award winning (and Kevin Smith championed) “The Dirties”.
These spotlights form a ‘mini-festival’. They allow the audience to get used to the new Scotiabank Theatre venue, yet continue the tradition of audience votes for their favourite of the four films, and each night ends down the street at The Office where the festival’s Pub After Dark events will be held in October.
Pub After Dark is a chance to chat with fellow fans to rant and praise what you’ve seen. DJ Eric was spinning thematic tunes including “Pet Cemetery”, “Nightmare on My Street” and several tracks from “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”. Past festival favorite “ManBorg” was playing on various screens and the chat ranged from that night’s films, to TIFF’s Midnight Madness selections. While none of that night’s creators were on hand, engaging with directors and actors at the pub is part of what distinguishes Toronto After Dark from other festivals.
Two films down, many more to go. Tickets for the September screenings are on sale at www.cineplex.com aind more information is available at http://torontoafterdark.com/2013/.
