Sam Raimi Returns to Television with Rake

Just in time for the release of the shiny new Evil Dead, and hot off the heels of the box office success of Oz The Great and Powerful, Deadline has reported that Sam Raimi will be making his return to television serving as executive producer and director on a new pilot for FOX.

Raimi’s television resume reflects his penchant for genre, shlock and out-there sensibilities. His early small screen outings date back to the 90s where he served as executive producer on such classics as Young HerculesXena: Warrior Princess, and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys etc. He also More contemporary TV involvement has included exec. producer credits on Legend of the Seeker (awesome!), and most recently, Spartacus: Blood & Sand.

But enough about the past, the details on this new pilot entitled Rake are some what sparse. The series is set to star Greg Kinnear, and Raimi will presumably take over as executive producer on the series if it gets picked up. Make what you will about the synopsis (below) – but with production scheduled to begin in a few days hopefully we’ll know more soon!

Based on the Australian comedic drama, Rake follows the chaotic and comedic life of criminal defense lawyer Keegan Joye (Kinnear), brilliant, frustratingly charming, and with zero filter.

Love Sam Raimi but I don’t see this show making it past the first season just on the premise. Lawyer shows are played out.
