Crystal Tokyo is Upon Us: new Sailor Moon merch is here!

Sailor Moon is one of the greatest anime series ever made. It was probably the first really popular anime in North America that sparked a wave of fandom that has quickly, as in the last eighteen years quickly, spread into mass hysteria in the West. At one point, DIC Entertainment was ready to cancel the series but a slew of fans formed a team, “Save Our Sailors”, to save it from ultimate destruction.

Thank god they did, because we wouldn’t be here today! I’m nuts about Sailor Moon (or any “magical girl anime” if we’re being frank, here) so when I heard that a new series was being animated with writer Naoko Takeuchi’s enthusiasm and support, I wanted to cry tears of joy. Sweet, sweet, mahou shoujo (read: magical girl) tears of joy.

All I want in my life is to be a magical girl! Put me in an over-the-top frilly pink dress, make my cat talk, give me a pretty sparkly wand and let me shoot bright pink hearts into my enemy’s faces! I want my life to be in cupcake-colours all the time. But I guess, for now, I’ll settle for cosplay and super cool merch such as this new Sailor Moon action figure set! It will sell for $42.99 USD and includes a Luna figurine, two moon sticks, three different facial expressions, various interchangeable hands (three left, five right), and various extra parts so you can recreate the “moon tiara action” effect yourself!

Pre-orders for the figure begin on May 8th, but will officially go on sale in August or September through Bluefin, Bandai’s North American distributor.
