RECORD STORE DAY…It’s Here!

Kids have Christmas, comic book fans have Comicon, and on Saturday April 20th, music geeks have THIS: Record Store Day. I can only say those three words with a breathy sigh, dreamy gaze and a smile on my lips because for music fans the world over our annual day has come. And with Jack White at the helm as Record Store Day ambassador, there is going to be no shortage of awesome. Trust me.

Don’t worry if you’re a n00b, to sum it up, Record Store Day kicked off in 2008, in San Francisco. It quickly spread internationally to promote independent record stores and is now celebrated on the third Saturday of every April. In addition to hundreds of limited edition, one day only, vinyl record releases that range from Soundgarden to the Shangri-Las and everything in between, it’s also a day of festivities. You can expect rad concerts (INSIDE some record stores!), music artist meet and greets, DJ’s, parades and more.

Heck, if you’re in Los Angeles you may even get to shop alongside Keith Morris (Black Flag, Circle Jerks) like I did last year. My music g33k heart nearly exploded.

Head on over to the Record Store Day website, or more specifically the Canadian website to find out what stores will be participating your city, as well as what records you can snag. Here in GEEKPR0N land (aka Toronto), we’re looking forward to bands all day in the Annex at Sonic Boom, a huge party and sales at KOPS and DJ’s at June Records. That’s just to start! Where will you be heading on Record Store Day this year and what do you plan to snag? I know I have one or two records in mind…
