R.I.P. Robin Sachs
Robin Sachs, a British actor and an established contributor to geek entertainment throughout his career, has passed away.
Sachs is best known for his roles in TV, Film, and Video Games – all of which were unique and memorable. Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer would recognize him as Ethan Rayne, the nemesis of Giles. He also donned several layers of prosthetic makeup to portray General Sarris, the big bad of Galaxy Quest, and was most recently known for his voice acting contributions to BioWare game titles, providing the voice of various supporting characters in the Dragon Age series, and of Mass Effect‘s iconic crazy old space veteran, Zaeed Massani.
His passing, which occurred on February the 1st, was announced earlier today via his official website, although the cause of death is not currently known to the public.
The staff of his website gave him a thoughtful send-off:
“This is a post we never thought we would have to write…
It is with great sadness that we have to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Robin Sachs.
Please join us in raising a glass to Robin – goodbye, dear friend. Thank you for all the laughter and the cookies. We will miss you so very much.
Di, Sharon and everyone at robinsachs.com”

Today would have been his 62nd birthday. A genuine talent who perhaps missed out on some of the recognition he deserved in the midst of our chaotic, media-saturated culture. If Science Fiction is your speed, take a little time this week to appreciate the great performances he gave us.
