The Pull List: Top 5 Titles for March 19
The pull list can be intimidating. Every week the rack gets covered with titles and it can be really hard to sort through what to read. So here’s a short list of my top five to watch this week.
5. All New Ghost Rider #1
Ghost Rider returns this week, but instead of Johnny Blaze this issue will introduce a new rider. Set in LA amidst gang violence and drug trafficking, the new rider will have his story told by Felipe Smith with art by Tradd Moore. Look for a new twist on the character, including a brand new set of wheels!
4. Rush Clockwork Angels #1
Fans of Rush’s music will want to check out this steampunk sci-fi based on their music. Written by Neil Peart, Rush’s drummer and lyricist and based on the band’s 2012 album of the same name, with art by Nick Robles and Hugh Syme, this six-part mini-series will undoubtedly rock (yes, pun intended).
3. Sovereign #1
Author Chris Roberson writes this high fantasy comic that promises tension between cultures, civil wars and supernatural elements. The Image Comics site teases that “ancient threats emerging from the ashes of history to menace the future”. With Paul Maybury responsible for the art, Sovereign has the potential to be just as engrossing as any other iconic fantasy story, and it’s a great warm up for the fourth season of Game of Thrones.
2. Buffy Season 10 #1
Attention Whedon fans, your favourite slayer is back and the man himself is the executive producer! Not only that but Buffy will reportedly return to her life of vampire hunting. Season 10 will pit slayer against vampire again, but it won’t be without its twists. Dark Horse is also teasing that this season will see all the rules be broken, so get ready for Buffy Summers’ triumphant return.
1. American Vampire Second Cycle #1
Skinner Sweet and Perl Jones are back in this sequel set in the ‘60’s. A vampire and her maker separated with intersecting stories and a shared enemy, the question is whether or not they will be reunited. With Scott Snyder writing and Rafael Albuquerque’s art, there is no doubt that this second cycle will be just as grisly and clever as the first and a perfect jumping on point for anyone who may have missed out before.
Keep an eye out for Ms Marvel #2, Wolverine and the X-Men #2, Harley Quinn #4, and Superman Unchained #6 which will have ten variant covers in celebration of the Man of Steel’s 75th anniversary.
