The Pull List: Top 5 and New Comic Releases for October 22nd
DC is having a big week. New story arcs, and new number ones make up the bulk of their releases. This week’s top 5 focuses on all of their exciting news and one special book published by IDW that’s close to my heart. Here they are:
Edward Scissorhands #1
Tim Burton’s masterpiece movie is getting a comic sequel. Set 50 years after Edward met Kim, this book reveals another of the Inventor’s creations. The art is quirky and reminiscent of Burton’s own sketches. If, like me, you have a soft spot for this cult classic, you need to pick up this book.
Deathstroke #1
Deathstroke is the known as the world’s deadliest assassin, so it’s about time DC brought his particular brand of bad-ass to the New 52. The series will be written and drawn by Tony S. Daniel of Detective Comics fame, and DC is billing it as “explosive”. Sounds like fun.
Aquaman #35
Jeff Parker is going to reveal the truth about Aquaman’s mother, Maelstrom, Arthur will make a discovery that will alter his life, and the whole thing will kick off a story arc in which he tries to keep Atlantis from ripping itself apart. It’s ambitious, but I think Parker can pull it off.
Arkham Manor #1
From the mind of Gerry Duggan and the pencil of Shawn Crystal comes this new Batman title. When Arkham Asylum is destroyed, Gotham needs somewhere to house the inmates. Of course, Batman will not allow the lunatics to roam free, so he opens up Wayne Manor and it becomes Arkham Manor.
Catwoman #35
Selina Kyle is finally where she should be, running the Gotham underground. This issue kicks of her reign and sets up the challenges she’ll face. Now, can we talk about the cover? She looks fierce! Catwoman was never one to be messed with, but in a well cut suit with her whip, she looks like she wields all the power as she looks down her nose at Gotham.
