The Pull List: New Comic Releases and Top 5 for October 8
Well my friends, new comic book day is upon us once again. This week there will be a lot of big story arcs kicking off; Marvel will finally launch Axis and the Bat-family will see some big changes. Of course, the closer we get to Halloween, the more horror titles and tie-ins will hit the rack as well. Here is this week’s top 5:
Hawkeye vs. Deadpool #1
I’m not a huge fan of these random cross overs, or Marvel’s need to throw Deadpool into every possible scenario to generate sales, but issue #0 of this series had me laughing. Duggan’s script captures a little bit of Fraction’s Hawkeye and mixes it with his own brand of Deadpool insanity; the result is almost too entertaining.
Wytches #1
October means that everything is pumpkin flavoured and Halloween themed. In the spirit of one of my favourite holidays, I had to include something scary on this week’s top 5. Enter Scott Snyder’s new take on the mythology of witches. It’s being published by Image and promises a terrifying and dark look at where witches come from.
Axis #1
Marvel has been prepping us for Axis for months, and this week the Red Skull’s onslaught is going to kick off. The Axis in question will be the reunion the Avengers and X-Men after AvX; they will need to find a way to work together to overcome the Red Skull’s new telepathic might and put an end to “World War Hate.”
Batman #35
Batman may be turning 75 this year, but he is nowhere near slowing down. Scott Snyder is giving the Dark Knight a slightly twisted birthday gift; issue 35 is the beginning of the new story arc “Endgame”, which will feel like a class reunion as Batman faces a long list of old foes and allies.
Batgirl #35
It’s a big week for Batgirl, this week is the debut of her much hyped new look. Barbara is about to give herself one hell of a makeover; she’ll have a new costume, new haunt and starts a new crusade to protect her peers when she learns what’s going on in her new neighbourhood.
