The Pull List: New Comic Releases and Top 5 for November 5
I would be amiss if I didn’t talk about Batman this week. In honour of his 75th anniversary, DC is re-releasing some of the Dark Knight’s more iconic stories. This week will see Batman Adventures collect the first ten issues as a trade, a 25th anniversary edition of Batman Arkham Asylum, and a special edition of Batman Year One. On top of that, there are new Death of Wolverine spin offs and cool new titles starting up this week. Here are my top 5:
Action Comics #36
Superman is launching a new story arc and it’s taking him back to his roots. Smallville is threatened by dark magic and Superman has to figure out a way to contain the epidemic before it spreads. On the heels of the Doomed story line, the Man of Steel will have to embark on a very personal mission and save his hometown from destruction.
Death of Wolverine: Life After Logan (one shot)
When Marvel announced that they would be addressing the fallout from Wolverine’s death, they weren’t kidding. As the word spreads across the Marvel U, characters are starting to mourn. This one shot is going to detail the thoughts and actions those who knew him best, the X-Men. So get ready Wolverine fans, this one is likely to cause some feels.
Amazing Spider-Man #9
It’s finally time for Spider-verse to kick off and in this issue Morlun is bringing the hunt back to Peter Parker and Cindy Moon. Meanwhile, Superior Spider-Man is building his spider-army to try and protect the spider-heroes of the Marvel U. Presumably, the first issue of the event will see all the players converge in the 616 Universe and put Spider-Man in the fight of his life. Written by Dan Slott and illustrated by Olivier Coipel, Marvel is calling this the biggest Spider-Man event ever.
Death of Wolverine: Weapon X Program
Just when you think Marvel has covered Logan’s death from every angle, in comes Charles Soule to write about the new Weapon X subjects that Wolverine found just before his death (see Death of Wolverine #4 for all the details). These unfortunate test subjects are on the run, but can they escape and handle the strains of their new powers along with the truth about their pasts and their connection to Wolverine?
Tooth and Claw #1
Get ready fantasy fans, because Image is launching a new epic. When a group of wizards summon a long forgotten hero to save the world, things don’t go quite as they intended. The story will touch an all of the usual fantasy tropes and probably subvert some of them as well. The new ongoing series also has a killer creative team; writer Kurt Busiek and illustrator Benjamin Dewey are joined by colourist Jordie Bellaire and letterer John Roshell.
