The Pull List: New Comic Releases and Top 5 for August 6
As the summer winds down, comics are revving up. This fall will see a lot of huge story arcs launch and the climates of several beloved characters will undoubtedly change. This week, there are hints of what is in store for the future; here are this week’s top 5:
Batman Eternal #18
Every week since it launched, Batman Eternal has provided an exciting view of the Gotham City around Batman. The focus on Batman’s surroundings has seen Commissioner Gordon fall on hard times as he is set up and imprisoned, but in this issue Batgirl, Batwoman, and Jason Todd may be able to uncover the evidence to free him, if they make it in time.
Genius #1
A teen-age girl named Destiny is a brilliant military mind and she amasses her own army to strike against the authorities in her home town of L.A. She was born into a life of war and she’s not afraid to use all of the tools in her arsenal to evoke change. This new weekly title is promising a lot of action.
Superior Spider-Man #32
Just when you thought it was safe to wander the streets of New York again, Superior Spider-Man is back. Doctor Octopus is still wreaking havoc as a false Spidey, but how? This issue will kick off the next big Spidey event, Spider-Verse, which will feature every Spider-Man ever.
Moon Knight #6
Warren Ellis and Declan Shalvey brought Moon Knight into Marvel NOW! and created a great jumping on point to the Moon Knight mythology and now they are leaving the title after book 6. The story arc will wrap up, with the threat from book one returning, and Ellis and Shalvey will step down making way for a new team to take up the mantle.
Detective Comics #34
Batman maybe the world’s greatest detective, but he may have met his match. When a friend is killed and a new drug called “Icarus” hits the streets, the perpetrator is unknown; Batman has to face this seemingly unsolvable puzzle.
