The Pull List: Free Comic Book Day Preview
This Saturday is Free Comic Book Day! It’s a day when comic book stores all over North America offer fans and new comers to comics the chance to pick up any one of over fifty titles absolutely free; you can read our article about the history of FCBD here. There are titles for all ages from all of the major publishers; Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image and many others are contributing to give readers an opportunity to see what their comics are all about. Here is a quick rundown of some of this year’s big giveaways, and to see a complete list check out the FCBD website here.
Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck “Matter of Some Gravity”
This collection of stories was originally published in the mid ‘90s by favourite creator Don Rosa and is being reprinted specially for this FCBD edition. The stories feature classic Disney characters Uncle Scrooge, Donald Duck, Magicia De Spell and Lucky Gladstone Gander and will be a fun read for anyone who feels nostalgic or to introduce kids to come definitive characters.
Avatar the Last Air Bender and Itty Bitty Hellboy
This is another great title for kids who want to get into comics, or for fans of either franchise. In this issue, Avatar, Itty Bitty Hellboy, and The Juice Squeezers all have their own stand-alone story lines.
Atomic Robo
This issue will mark Atomic Robo’s seventh FCBD offering. This acclaimed book follows the adventures of a self-aware robot who was built by Nicolas Tesla. Each adventure has its own mini-series making it easy to jump aboard and keep up.
Rise of the Magi #0
Marc Silvestri is the big name behind this new title. Silvestri is best known for his contributions to Witchblade, The Darkness, and even the X-Men. This new book takes place in a world where the invisible realm of magic sustains life as we know it, but it becomes threatened when the magical reality begins to crumble.
Transformers vs. G.I. Joe
Not much to say about this title except that both the Transformers and G.I. Joe are awesome separately so pit them against each other and there’s bound to be some great action. Of course, these two titans have met before and the result was all kinds of campy fun!
Future’s End #0
DC is pulling out all the stops and debuting their new weekly book on FCBD. Not only is this a new story arc that holds the fate of the DCU in the balance, but it is also Batman Beyond’s first appearance in the New 52. His battle in the future will decide whether the looming apocalypse will destroy the present!
All Rocket Raccoon
With Guardians of the Galaxy coming out in theatres this summer, everything related to the cosmic heroes is getting extra attention. Rocket Raccoon is no exception. This FCBD offering features Marvel’s infamous smart-ass demolitions expert in his own solo adventure.
Guardians of the Galaxy
Rocket may get his own feature, but there are big things in store for his team as well. Not only will this FCBD issue see Venom and Captain Marvel join the Guardians, but this issue will mark a whole new epic for the team. Marvel is also promising that writer Dan Slott will lay the foundations for a huge Spider-Man event!
So what comics are you looking forward to getting this FCBD?
