NEWSFLASH: Nintendo/Sega Partnership & Virtual Console Surprises
It’s an exciting day in Nintendo-fan-land when we finally hear some exciting news regarding the Wii U. Fans of the fabulous video game company have been dying for some big news about the Wii U, especially considering the rumours of sales not going so strong. What better news to start the summer off than an exclusive partnership between Nintendo and Sega to exclusively release upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog games on both the Wii U and the 3DS. Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s Global President, recently released the news via a Nintendo Direct on March 17th, 2013. The upcoming console game will be called Sonic Lost Worlds (I’m praying for something along the lines of Sonic Adventure Battle 2) and will consist of action adventure elements that many Sonic fans have grown to love.
You know, I love new platformers. I live and die for the Super Mario Galaxy games and I’m really looking forward to The Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3 and the Wii U eShop title Game & Wario, but what I’m really excited for the 3DS eShop release of two of my favourite Game Boy Color games, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages & Oracle of Seasons! On May 30th you’ll be able to download both titles from the 3DS eShop and even better, they’ll each be on sale at $4.99 per game for three weeks! A lot of young fans of the Zelda franchise have missed these games, since neither of them got a lot of hype when they came out (let alone post-Twilight Princess), so this will be an exciting opportunity. And trust me, you’ll want both of them so you can swap secret codes between the two of them and 100% complete the game storyline.
Speaking of Sega and the Virtual Console, these classic Game Gear games will be available soon on the 3DS Virtual Console:
- Columns
- Crystal Warriors
- Defenders of Oasis
- Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
- G-LOC: Air Battles
- Shining Force II: The Sword of Hajya
- Sonic Blast
- Sonic Drift 2
- Sonic Labyrinth
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2
- Tails Adventure
- Vampire: Master of Darkness
Keep an eye open for various Nintendo announcements during E3! They may not be debuting a new console, but a select amount of upcoming titles will be available to play at Best Buy’s around the country post-E3. I know I’m a shameless Nintendo fangirl, but I really think everyone should take the chance to play with the Wii U. It really is a great console and handles really well. And hey, if you can play for free, why not?
