Doop series finally launched by Marvel!
Everyone’s favourite green, sexually-fluid, alien bachelor Doop will be starring in his very own miniseries, courtesy of writer Peter Milligan and artist David Lafuente. I know, “WHAT TOOK MARVEL SO LONG?” But good things come to those who wait.
For those non-Doopites, Doop first appeared in X-Statix, a comic book parody of the superhero and factual-drama (i.e. Reality TV) genres. Acting as the mascot for a group of dysfunctional, out-of-control super teens, Doop quickly became a cult favourite, showcasing various abilities including the power to defeat Thor, God of Thunder (X-Statix #25 for all you back-issue hunters).
No one knows where this mysterious green blob came from or what his intentions are, but he has been a fixture in the background of X-comics ever since. As Squirrel Girl is to the Avengers, Doop is to the X-men, providing commentary and analysis in the pages of various storylines, including the recent Wolverine and the X-men series. Doop even briefly teamed up with Wolverine in a 2-part miniseries where they traveled to Toronto to defeat the supervillain feather boa The Pink Mink and its partner the Pink Lady.
Websites have even been launched to decipher ‘Doop-speak’ so that we can all finally hear the gems of wisdom that this helpful visitor from the stars has treasured us with.
All-New Doop #1 will be available at your local comic book store in April 2014.
