Netflix in talks with Nintendo to develop live action Legend of Zelda

No, this is not an early April Fool’s joke.

Netflix, which has found great success in producing original content, is working closely with Nintendo to develop a live action series based on The Legend of Zelda.

The show, currently seeking writers, is being described as ‘Game of Thrones for a family audience.’ Hopefully that means the show is going to be full of intrigue and mystery set in a world rich in history and lore. Anyone who’s played the games knows full well that is the case for the games.

The last time the land of Hyrule was depicted on the small screen it was for the infamous Zelda animated series that ran for a single season in 1989 as part of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show which turned the bold and noble Link into an obnoxious slacker who was more interested in sleeping all day and trying to get into Zelda’s pants than he was in saving the kingdom.

With Netflix poised to start expanding into the Japanese market, a partnership with one of the countries biggest video game companies would be a brilliant move.

Netflix already has a strong stable of originally produced content both live action and animated, and its partnership with Marvel is beginning to bear fruit with the release of the first trailer for the live action Daredevil series and production on a.k.a. Jessica Jones in full swing I think it’s safe to say Netflix is positioning itself as a contender on the global media market.
