MMO Monday: The Big Bang Theory
It would be a crime if a long running television series revolving around four geeks and their sexy (female) blonde neighbour didn’t have a plot or two revolving around MMOGs. Luckily “The Big Bang Theory” has got it covered.
In case you’ve been in a cave for the past four years, or been sucked into the world of online gaming and missed it, “The Big Bang Theory”, now entering it’s 5th season has spent it’s time exploring the world of theoretical, astro and other types of physics, hierarchical structure of scientists, research at a university, gaming, science fiction, comics, and social interaction. In it’s fourth season “TBBT” became television’s highest rated comedy in the U.S. and the most watched show in Canada with it’s season premiere matching the series finale of Friends, no caveat, and it’s about a bunch of nerds.
In a season 2 episode “The Barbarian Sublimation”, Penny gets locked out of her apartment and ends up waiting with Sheldon a.k.a Sheldor the Conqueror who is playing Age of Conan. His solution to her never ending interruptions is to introduce her to the game, and within moments she’s hooked to the exasperation of Sheldon who she is endlessly going to for game advice, and the shock of the other fellas. The quote Walowitz “What the frak?”

In the first season “The Fuzzy Boots Corollary” (s1e03)the boys are into World of Warcraft. During a 78+ hour raid Sheldon, a Rogue Knight Elf, retrieves the sword of Azeroth then teleports to sell it on ebay, which Howard promptly purchases to become The Sword Master!
A Fourth Season episode “The Zarnecki Incursion” revolves around a bully hacking into Sheldon’s WOW account, Sheldon calls 911 to report the robbery, and after the police leave him to his own devices because they don’t have jurisdiction he and the gang try to solve the problem on their own. Penny pretty much saves the day. Watch the condensed version here.
Another focuses on Howard’s online affair with a hot troll in WOW behind the back of his real life girlfriend Bernadette.
I highly recommend The Big Bang Theory to everyone out there, especially those who can relate, you’ll get all the good jokes that most folks miss anyway.
