Marvel’s Latest Casting Announcement Means the Defenders are Almost Complete
Marvel has announced the next big piece of casting news for their Netflix original series Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones. Leading into The Defenders, Jessica Jones will get her own mini-series that documents her time as a detective whose cases always seem to involve astounding individuals. One such person is Luke Cage, who will change the shape of Jones’ life once they meet. It was announced a while back that Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad, and Tim Burton’s upcoming Big Eyes) would be taking on the role of Jessica, and now we know that Luke Cage will be played by Mike Colter.
Fans may recognize Colter from Zero Dark Thirty or from the series The Following, and he is currently working on the Halo series Nightfall. I think Colter is a great pick to play Cage; he has the look and I don’t think he’ll have any trouble pulling off the character. I will be perfectly honest and admit that I was in camp Terry Crews to take on Cage’s character (as so many fans were) but I am perfectly happy with Marvel’s decision to bring Colter on board. Cage will also get his own mini-series after he appears on A.K.A. Jessica Jones, which will likely tell his back story.
Each piece of casting moves s closer to seeing The Defenders realized on screen. With Daredevil already in production, and A.K.A. Jessica Jones’ casting rounded out, the only major character left to be cast is Iron Fist. With Sons of Anarchy wrapping up, a clean shaven Charlie Hunnam could use some extra work, he’d be an awesome Danny Rand. Make it happen Marvel!
