‘Lust for Love’ – A Whedonverse without Whedon
We all love Whedonverse actors, no matter what they’re appearing in or who they’re playing. In fact, the only thing better than one Whedonverse actor is two, and even better than that is Lust for Love, the most epic Whedon Without Whedon project of all time, cramming half a dozen Whedonverse actors into one glorious looking movie, including Fran Kranz, Dichen Lachman, Enver Gjokaj, Felicia Day, Miracle Laurie and Maurissa Tancharoen, (basically everyone whose name I have to look up to spell properly).
Judging by the cast alone this movie could just be titled Dollhouse 2, an unofficial sequel where Topher imprints all the dolls to help him in a scheme to win his childhood crush, Mila (Beau Garrett), the only girl in the film who is not a Whedonverse alumni.
The actual story of Lust for Love is as non-Whedony as it gets though. Astor (Kranz) needs Mila’s ex-best friend (Lachman) to teach him to be more confident to win his girlfriend back and I imagine they fall in love by the end but that’s just wild speculation. Despite sounding like a 90’s teen drama the trailer looks outrageously fun and bursting with laughs. It’s also great to see Kranz and Lachman back on screen together as they had spectacular emotional chemistry back in the day on Dollhouse. I ship it.
Another reason to be excited is because this happens:
It’s nice to see Fran Kranz’s abs finally getting a moment in the spotlight, especially since Kranz is “ripped like a muscular Jesus” according to the Cabin the Woods writers who made him keep his clothes on in that film so he wouldn’t make Chris Hemsworth look bad. Four points for you Fran Kranz, four points for you.
Lust for Love and all its Whedonverse alumni can be seen on VOD and On Demand starting February 7th and you can check out the trailer over on EW.com who have the exclusive look for now.
