Left Behind – The Last of Us DLC
Naughty Dog developed their first single player DLC content for The Last of Us called Left Behind, which appeared in the PlayStation Store February 14th 2014. Yep, the DLC became available on Valentine’s Day.
It is actually a genius move, because a lot of gamer couples (and single folk) save their dollars and instead spend their holiday of lurve in front of their gaming platform of choice. For a small group of people, this is a disastrous mix. You know, the couple that consists of one closeted gamer and one complete non-gamer. Trying to finalize romantic Valentine’s Day plans, and secretly playing the Titanfall beta and Left Behind can be monumentally difficult – and damaging… but let’s not get off topic.
This DLC explores Ellie’s experiences right before the start of The Last of Us, specifically centered around the relationship she has with her best friend and mentor, Riley. The pair attends a military school in Boston, and after the outbreak they are stuck in the middle of a quarantine zone. Instead of being forcefully quarantined, the pair join the rebel group called the Fireflies and fight their way out. This journey is fierce and life-changing, and shapes Ellie into the character we know and seriously love. (Who doesn’t have space in their heart for a rough-around-the-edges teen girl who swears like a trucker?)
On another side note, I LOVE the fact that Ellie’s best friend, Riley, is a young and strong teen of colour. She totally reminds me of a younger version of Rose Rollins’ character, Tasha Williams, from the show, The L Word.
The game will run you about $14.99 in the PlayStation Store, but if you have the seasons pass you can download this prequel for free. It took them a long time to release, but Left Behind is here… and it is awesome.
