Jason Mewes Talks Degrassi, Thinks ‘Jay Would Totally Rap Battle Drake’

Jay of fictional stoner duo Jay and Silent Bob has never been one to back down from a challenge. It’s why Jason Mewes, the actor who portrays him, is confident Jay would take on musical juggernaut Drake in a one on one rap battle.

In a roundtable interview at Fan Expo Canada, Mewes told Geekpr0n, “Jay would totally rap battle Drake. Not win, but he would do it.”

Fans of Degrassi will remember Mewes’ appearance on the show alongside Kevin Smith in 2005, where the two played exaggerated versions of themselves in town to film the fictional Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, Eh! During that time, Mewes got to know show star Aubrey Drake Graham before his rise to musical stardom.

“I remember being there way back for Degrassi and I remember like, being there waiting to do press and everyone chatting…and Drake talking about doing music,” the 42 year old actor / podcast host recounted. “And I remember being like, ‘Oh that’s cool, this kid wants to do music!’ And little did I know like five years later or whatever I was like ‘Oh my God, that’s him, man, it’s amazing.”

In 2009, Kevin Smith confessed that their time on Degrassi arose from a genuine love for the serial drama. While working at the real world Quick Stop before Smith’s debut film Clerks was released, he and Mewes would regularly tune in during work hours. Smith told The Star, “I’m about 19, 20 years old; Mewes is 16, 17, and suddenly we’re both total converts to this Canadian teen soap opera that we’d never heard of.”

Jay and Silent Bob will no doubt be seen bumming around in Kevin Smith’s planned TV version of Mallrats. Last we heard, it was “heading into production” as of June 2016.

What do you think? Would Jay’s experience talking sh*t land him a victory, or is Drake’s View from the 6ix higher than even Jay?
