J.J. Abrams Releases a Mysterious Trailer entitled “Stranger”

I’m going to start by explaining how I feel about trailers most of the time. If you’ve read things I’ve written here, or even on twitter, or met me – you’ll probably already know that excessive trailers, promo pics, etc drive me bonkers and for me, has had the effect of most of these types of things turning into just plain noise.

Now, let’s get to it.  J.J. Abrams has just released a trailer from his production company Bad Robot simply titled “Stranger”. At this point there is no project attached and the message at the end only reads “soon”.

I love this.

I’m still working out why – but my gut reaction was that this isn’t for a project at all, be it feature, TV or web based. My not-so-secret hope is that this is just for kicks. Kind of a short film web project releasing bits of ideas for the internet to go bananas over because *OMG* it’s J.J. Because why not.

The way fandom reacts to tiny bits of story or information, particularly when dealing with the internet and information overload from upcoming series/films, is a phenomenon I find just so interesting. I’m hardly committed to betting that this is just that – but would I ever love it.

Watch the trailer and let me know what you think this is all about in the comments!

I grok that this might be Stranger in a Strange Land with artistic license. Water plays a big part in that. It wouldn’t account for the mouth at the end though. Oh! It’s probably a Stranger In A Strange Land/Edward Scissorhands mashup. Clearly.
