Drunken Reviews – Injustice: Gods Among Us
Since Injustice: Gods Among Us was released I thought it would be nice to sit down, have a drink (or many), game with a few friends and write about it.
Developed by the makers of the last Mortal Kombat game, NetherRealm Studios, you can tell right away what the play style will be like.
The single player campaign contains 12 chapters and gives players a taste of the play style of most of the heroes from the Justice League. There are also 20 different battle modes that are all part of the offline game play. Players can also screw around in a regular training mode to perfect combos before going online, or just to hone their button mashing skills. There is an online training mode as well, allowing players to train with their friends in an online setting. Some other game types include King of the Hill, 1 v 1, 1 v 1 ranked, and survival mode (the winner keeps their current health pool and continues onward).
Offline game play also includes S.T.A.R Lab missions; each character has 10 missions to complete, and there are 24 characters in all. Missions vary from 1 on 1 with a twist, mini-game style, or even an obstacle course, keeping offline gameplay interesting, engaging, and not repetitive.
Spanning across both offline and online gameplay is a levelling system. Upon each level, players are granted an “access key” that can be used in the Archives menu to unlock additional skins, concept art for characters or stages, and additional music.
Countless skins are available for each character, most of them being free to unlock through in-game feats such as completing a single battle or all of a characters S.T.A.R Lab missions, etc. Skins can also be purchased in packs, with a maximum of 4 different skins for various characters per pack.
As of now, it has been confirmed that 4 characters will be available for purchase over the coming months. These new characters can be purchased individually, or though a seasons pass giving players all 4 characters for the price of 3, with an additional Flashpoint skin pack.
Only 2 of these characters have been revealed:
– the notorious galactic bounty hunter Lobo (said to be released early this month)
– Barbara Gordon’s Batgirl (no date confirmed)
Each new character release comes with a skin for a character in the pre-existing roster. So, for example, the Lobo purchase will also include the Thomas Wayne skin for Batman, from the Flashpoint DC Universe.
Each character from the 24 character cast feels unique and different with individual skills and ‘super moves’. All characters are amazingly voiced by the most recognized voice actor for that character, in either television or gaming (excluding Mark Hamill’s Joker).
A recommended game for fans of the fight game genre – especially those who are a fan of the Mortal Kombat play style over the Street Fighter play style. What makes this game great is it’s ability to remain different and interesting enough for players who want to re-visit this game alone, with friends of differing skill levels, or at varying points between sober and obliterated.
