Hugh Jackman’s pick for the next Wolverine

Hugh Jackman has portrayed Wolverine so many times that he has become synonymous with the character. It’s hard to imagine anyone else convincingly playing Wolverine after Jackman’s 14 years wearing the claws, but the hard reality is that he isn’t getting any younger unlike his mutant counterpart who doesn’t age. Jackman admitted last September that he was unlikely to film more than one more movie, so on the recent press tour for his latest appearance as Wolverine, X-Men: Days of Future Past Jackman was asked who might fill his claws when he stepped down. He replied “I don’t know who could play him. Channing Tatum could probably play him.”

Of course the entire issue of Jackman giving up the role is bitter sweet; the fun he’s had playing Wolverine is apparent in every picture and interview. Jackman is also quoted as saying that he had to play Logan a few times before he really got his mind around the character, “I’ve got to admit, when I took on the role, I was 30 but I think I needed to be 40 before I really got it…Now I feel like ‘This guy’s 200’. I’m enjoying it more now than I ever have, that’s for sure.”
