How many balloons does it take to lift Wayne Manor?
Ever wondered just how many balloons it would take to lift your house? Me neither, but I did wonder how it would take to lift Batman’s house, because well, that’s what us nerds do. We then take it a step further and write programs that will calculate how much weight one balloon can support along with the assumed weight of a building and eureka! (for the actual calculations and science behind the app, read about it here)
Oh and the answer for Wayne Manor? 1,100,000,000 balloons.
I completely blame the movie UP for putting this idea in all our heads. Hell, even a team of National Geographic scientists, engineers, two balloon pilots and a bunch of volunteers, managed to get a small house 10,000 feet into the air using 300 helium-filled weather balloons. Video here.
Check out this cool app and calculate just how many balloons it would take to launch your geek cave in the air.
Now if I can just invent that dog collar translator… squirrel!
