Hoverboards: They’re Real

Well here we are in 2015 – the same year that “Back to the Future 2” took place in. Aside from the Delorean time machine equipped with flux capacitor that Doc Brown builds in the series, it’s easy to say that the Hoverboard was hands down the most memorable invention featured in the trilogy. The movie may have got it right with that one – because thanks to minds and technicians at Hendo and the help of the public funding via Kickstarter, this is now a reality.

The company is still a long ways off from releasing the product to the public, but rest assured through their research and development have invented something that already works which is demonstrated below by the king of skateboarding Tony Hawk. It’s certainly not too slick yet, but the idea and technology are there.

The board works based on a patented magnetic energy that Hendo has created and can only work on certain surfaces. Regardless, this is a new technology, and one that is being looked at for other uses. One of the uses mentioned is building houses and tall structures on top of this technology so that when there are earthquakes and floods, the building can lift off the ground and not be affected. I think this is a brilliant idea, but clearly we are years away from this sort of thing.

Hendo says they are still perfecting the invention, but don’t be surprised when this becomes a regular item you can buy at the local Wal Mart. “Back to the Future 2” may have gotten most of it’s predictions of the we way we act, dress and live in year 2015 wrong, but at least with this amazing invention we may just be starting to catch up.
