Halloween DIYs for Crafty Geeks
I love Halloween. Probably more than Christmas! But I’m also a huge geek. So whenever, WHEREVER, I can insert my nerdiness….I WILL.
Here’s a collection of Halloween How-To’s you can do at home that will also satisfy your inner geek.
A spooky looking door knocker is always a good idea for when guests or trick or treaters come by. Here’s one that chughes225 made and posted on Craftster:
Ok, this next one is for our geeky fibreheads. Lillybearbutt has a lovely little collection of geeky knit/crochet items over at Ravelry. Now, the following geeky cat costumes have me wishing I could just randomly knit one up without a pattern like she has, and maybe you’re one of those that can, but if you’re like me you might need a pattern to go by. I guess you could always follow the pattern she references in a solid colour and then felt a Flash logo to glue on it!
Ok, this next one might not be that geeky. But how can you NOT love them. THEY’RE SO CUUUTE. You can just put the fangs in or add a light (preferably electric, not flame, or you’ll melt your teeth!)
This next one is my personal contribution. Anyone, and I mean, ANYONE, can do a really cool (and geeky) pumpkin carving.
My best technique tips are as follows: Print your carving out making sure it’s the size you want on your pumpkin, tape the paper in the desired spot on your pumpkin, using a tack/pin/paperclip poke pinholes along the lines of the design about a centimetre apart (closer for finite details), untape your paper and use it as a visual guide as you now basically connect the dots with your knife! Just remember not to cut those areas that will keep your design intact!
Or if a full size pumpkin isn’t your bag, maybe an army of ghosts and a Pacman gourd?
For you engineering/electronics peeps, here’s a few ideas for taking your front lawn halloween display to a full on horror show!

I’ll end with a costume suggestion since it’s one of the most popular geeky costumes to do if you can put together the lighting!

What’s YOUR favourite geeky craft to do for Halloween?
We got tired of wasting money buying pumpkins for the entire family, only to be using them for mulch the day after Halloween. Instead, we started doing paper mache masks and skulls. We decorate a set each year with our kids.
that’s a really cool idea!
