“Gravity” review: One of the greatest space films of all time!

HOLY. FREAKING. CRAP!

It takes a VERY special type of film for me to say this, but Gravity is in all honesty the BEST movie I have EVER SEEN!
I’m going to try not to spoil it any more than the trailer does, but just in case you have yet to see it, you have been warned.

Ok, so I want to start out by saying that this is probably the most realistic space movie I’ve ever seen. It’s basically about what would happen if a Kessler syndrome event happened while astronauts were in orbit. The whole movie had me on the edge of my seat in sheer terror, and crying by the end of it. There really isn’t any points in the film where the action or sense of impending doom isn’t present.

Another thing that makes this movie a win is the fact that all the science in it is very sound, even if it takes place in an alternate universe to our own (The shuttle Explorer mission to fix the Hubble Space Telescope is STS-157 whereas the final shuttle mission was STS-135). Even the way fire is depicted in micro-gravity is both beautiful and frighting.

I also absolutely love the casting of Sandra Bullock. I don’t think that any other actor could do as well in this role as she did. Not only was her acting and physicality top notch, but she was able to carry the film nearly on her own, with only small interludes from George Clooney.

Go see it if you haven’t yet… See it in 3D, see it in IMAX… it’s worth the price!
