GEEKPR0N HAS SEEN 17 MINUTES OF GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY!
Last night Guardians of the Galaxy fans across North America were treated to a special IMAX presentation of 17 minutes of footage from the film. Myself and several other GEEKPR0N writers were lucky enough to snag tickets to this one of a kind presentation, and we came back with the goods!
I’ll try to avoid too many spoilers, but be warned, if you’re planning on going into Guardians of the Galaxy with a blank slate, then you may want to avoid the internet for the next few weeks.
So the footage kicked off with a special introduction by director James Gunn. Gunn let us know that all the footage we were about to see was part of the IMAX remastering the Marvel team has been working on for the past few months. I’ve got to say, whatever they did, it looked fantastic. If you get a chance to see Guardians in IMAX 3D, do it!
Now, as for the footage itself, it begins much like the first trailer did, with a brief rundown of who the Guardians are, only this time, we get a bit more of their backstory. On top of that, we get a good look at just how each of our heroes ties into the larger galaxy, with some pretty specific references to Ronan and Thanos.
Next up, the Guardians are off to prison (fans of Annihilation will flip when they see what prison they’re sent to), which is where the bulk of the action takes place. It was clear that some of scenes were trimmed down for time, but what we did get was probably one of the best prison break sequences ever filmed. Not only do we get great dialogue (“What’s a raccoon?”), but we also see each of the Guardians in action fighting their way out.
Following the end of the footage, we were treated to what I can only assume will be the final theatrical trailer, and thanks to Marvel, you get to see that trailer right now. Just look up and witness all the badassery that’s coming to theatres August 1st! And yes, if you look carefully, that is Yondu near the end of the trailer.
So what do you think of this latest trailer? Let us know in the comments below!
