Gary Oldman on Possible Casting in Star Wars Episode VII: “Yeah, they’ve inquired.”

Casting rumors have been thrown left and right since we first discovered the continuation of the Star Wars saga. While only three actors have been officially announced (the original trio: Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford), we have probably heard the names of at least half of the acting community being rumored to take part in the film at some point or another.

The latest name to possibly venture into a galaxy far, far away is none other than the legend himself, easily one of the most underrated and phenomenally talented actors of our time: Gary Oldman.

Finally, here’s a name with some promise. With film titles such as The Fifth Element, The Dark Knight, Harry Potter, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes under his belt, there’s no doubt that J.J. Abrams would want to snag him immediately.

“They’ve called, yeah,” Oldman tells Sky Movies. “I’m more cynical about it now, I believe it when I’m on the plane home. You know, the deal isn’t done. But yeah, they’ve inquired.”

Considering the versatility of Oldman’s work, it’s difficult to assume whether he will be apart of the dark or light sides of the force. Regardless, I think we all know that his casting would be nothing short of EXTREMELY AND TOTALLY AWESOMELY EXCITING.

In other words, we have our fingers crossed. Tightly.

Star Wars: Episode VII, meanwhile, is set to start shooting soon and will be fly onto the big screen on December 18, 2015.
