Game of Thrones Showrunners Talk About Its Ending.
Minor Spoilers ahead.
It’s no big secret that George R.R. Martin is taking his damn time with the sixth book in the Game of Thrones series, Winds of Winter, and fans were increasingly speculating now if the show would outpace the books but simply when it would rapidly overtake and deviate from Martin’s works.
Speaking with Vanity Fair on Sunday, March 22nd, showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff basically confirmed they were likely going to outpace the books probably even before book six is released and, well, you’re gonna have to choose – will you wait for the books or continue the show? Judge for yourself, here’s their quote to Vanity Fair:
“Luckily, we’ve been talking about this with George for a long time, ever since we saw this could happen, and we know where things are heading. And so we’ll eventually, basically, meet up at pretty much the same place where George is going; there might be a few deviations along the route, but we’re heading towards the same destination. I kind of wish that there were some things we didn’t have to spoil, but we’re kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. The show must go on. . .and that’s what we’re going to do.” (via Vanity Fair)
Look, be honest with yourself – you’re going to watch the show. Or… if you’ve read this far, you’re going to have a plot point accidentally revealed to you if you try and wait on George, right? Because this is his favourite hobby.
