Fun Extras From Toronto After Dark 2014

I didn’t see all of the movies at this year’s Toronto After Dark, but one thing I love about the festival is the fun extras that you learn from Q&As and special introductions. And, just because, I’ve linked my reviews to each factoid.  You can also check out ALL the Toronto After Dark Film Festival reviews from our crack team of reporters in GEEKPR0N’s review section!

  •  Director Gerard Johnstone (Housebound) has a self-depreciating sense of humour.

  • Director David Hayter (Wolves) wanted sleek looking werewolves, with ears pointed back, so they looked like angry wolves. “When they point up they remind me of elves.”
He wanted sleek!

  • Jason Momoa was able to save a stunt in Wolves, by turning a fall into a roll and make it look even more badass!

  • The post production of Open Windows took over a year in order to ensure they looked like open windows on the laptop.

  • The Zellner Brothers used their intro to Kumiko to thank Canada for our best export, The Littlest Hobo!

  • Bradley King, whose first time feature Time Lapse was at the festival, advises checking out abandoned buildings for sets – once you get permission, you can even modify the space to allow for better filming!

And here's the Mould itself!

Seeing movies with a like-minded crowd is great, but what I love is the extras, the bits of trivia, bits of how-to advice, and insights into the director’s mindset.  And you have to love a festival that has an alumni Don Thacker (Motivatonal Growth – winner of last year’s best monster/creature) drive up to spend time at the festival, despite not having a film in it!
