For Sale: Kurt Cobain & Melvin’s Old Van
Today in, shit I’d like to buy news, Kurt Cobain’s old van is up for sale on eBay. The 1972 Dodge Sportsman Royal van, better known as “MELVAN” was used to chauffeur heavy rock band Melvins while on tour. It is also claimed to have been driven to Seattle punk shows by Nirvana frontman Cobain, and features his artwork of the band KISS on the side. How’s that for cool? Who cares that you could be bidding on a $30 000 shitbox that doesn’t drive? Quick, someone alert Courtney.
Listed by eBayer taddoyal (I guess it’s not the Tad Doyle but some other guy who just happens to have 100% positive feedback…ha!) the auction page boasts that the van has been:
“Featured in many books, Cobain Unseen, Come As You Are ETC. & Many NIRVANA documentary films. This is a very unique piece of MEVINS/NIRVANA history & truly one of a kind. The KISS Mural on the side was hand drawn by Kurt Cobain using sharpie markers shoplifted from the Thriftway grocery store in Montesano Washington (former employer of King Buzzo). This was one of the first MELVINS tour vans & was used on at least one U.S. tour. Kurt himself was often times known to drive this van to local shows, also included are two former registration’s [sic], one signed by Roger Osborne (King Buzzo) & the second signed by former MELVINS bass player Matt Lukin! Bid High & Bid Often, this will probably be your one & only chance to own this unique piece of music history!”
So are you going to bid? I was going to since my ass doesn’t have a driver’s license anyway so the non-running part is sort of a non-issue. I guess I need the $30 000 more though, so like the old song says…oh well whatever, nevermind.
