First Look at Avengers 2 and Ultron!
In a special double issue celebrating San Diego Comic Con, Entertainment Weekly has our first look at Avengers: Age of Ultron and it includes a look at Captain America’s new uniform, Iron Man’s spiffy new armour, and Ultron! The cover features the two Avengers, Ultron, and his robo-minions in the background. The article features interviews with Robert Downey Jr., Joss Whedon, gives exclusive details about a key scene, and gives some insight about Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and The Vision who are joining the character roster.
Here is a small taste of what EW knows about the plot:
For better or worse (trust us, it’s worse), his Tony Stark has devised a plan that won’t require him to put on the Iron Man suit anymore, and should allow Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the Hulk to get some much needed R&R as well. His solution is Ultron, self-aware, self-teaching, artificial intelligence designed to help assess threats, and direct Stark’s Iron Legion of drones to battle evildoers instead.
But as fans know, Ultron is not a hero. While this version of the iconic character may not be the familiar villain created by Hank Pym that appears in the comics, he is still a villain. He wants to affect change, and the most efficient way to do that is to go to the source and eliminate the humans who are causing the trouble. Joss Whedon is quoted as saying, “Ultron sees the big picture and goes, ‘Okay, we need radical change, which will be violent and appalling, in order to make things better; he’s not going ‘Muhaha, soon I’ll rule!’…..He’s on a mission, he wants to save us.”
EW continues to hint at the challenges that the Avengers will face when Ultron starts to wreak havoc:
The hard part about battling Ultron, as the cover image suggests, is that he’s not just a robot—he’s a program, capable of uploading himself and disappearing not into the clouds but the Cloud. And he has a bad habit of rebuilding himself into stronger and more fearsome physical forms.
I didn’t think I could be any more excited about Avengers: Age of Ultron, but it turns out that I was wrong. What do you guys think of this news? Let us know in the comments and if you want to read the entire article, the issue will be on newsstands this Friday.
