FanExpo 2014: Geekpr0n chats with David Finch
David Finch has made a name for himself working on some of Marvel and DC’s biggest properties including the X-Men, the Avengers, the mini-series Ultimatum and a variety of Batman titles. He has spent so much time working on various Batman projects that it should not be a surprise that he claims the Dark Knight is one of his favourite characters to draw. But when I got a chance to ask him a couple of questions at Fan Expo, some of his answers did surprise me, for example some of your favourite Batman stories may have been drawn to the smooth sounds of Kenny G. Don’t believe me? Here is a little bit about David Finch in his own words.

Geekpr0n: When you’re working, do you listen to music and what do you listen to?
David Finch: I sometimes listen to music, it depends on my mood. Sometimes if I’m really stressed out I even like easy listening music like my mom used to listen to. I can get so stressed out that it can be nice. When I was younger, I used to listen to a lot of heavy metal and everything. I listen to it [now] but not while I’m working, I just find that it doesn’t help me work.
GP: If you weren’t an artist, what would you be doing?
DF: You know that I don’t know. If I wasn’t drawing comics, I might be working in videogames or something like that but I’m so much of an artist that I don’t know what the heck I would do. I have no other skills.
GP: So some other artistic endeavour?
DF: It would have to be because I’ve tried to write but publishers wanted me as an artist.
GP: When did you know you wanted to be an artist?
DF: I was 20 and I was a high school dropout and had gotten kicked out a few times I just, you know, I really had no idea what I wanted to do with my life until I found comics. My sister actually used to read comics, and I used to tease her about it because I thought they were for little kids and once I actually opened one up, it changed my life.
