Evo vs. Nintendo

If anyone is a fan of the Evo Championship Series then you have probably heard about the last-minute chaos Nintendo has caused. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, I’ll fill you in.

The Evo tournament organizers decided to open a poll on Facebook, allowing fans to decide what games should be added to the tournament. Any game that got more than 500 votes would be included in a fundraising competition to benefit breast cancer research (d’awwww awesome Evo team is awesome). A whopping $94,683 (out of a total of $225,774) was brought in due to Super Smash Bros Melee, guaranteeing it a spot in Evo.

Fairly soon after, Nintendo responded with a not-so-positive demand to remove Melee from the tournament schedule. They didn’t have much to say in regards to why, and simply stated that Evo did not have their permission to broadcast the live-stream tournament.

Evo released a last-minute schedule update, and fans reacted immediately online. A petition was started to bring Melee back into the schedule.

The good news? It seems Nintendo listened to their screaming fans and gave Evo permission to broadcast one of their classic games.

For anyone not currently in the loop about Evo, their free live-stream tournament schedule is below. Do yourself a favour and watch it (its honestly hilarious as much as it is awesome).

Now go forth and kick some ass! (Virtually, of course)
