E3 2015 Recap: Bethesda Conference Highlights
When Bethesda Softworks dropped the bomb that Fallout 4 was a thing that was happening with their first ever E3 conference on the horizon everyone wanted to know what they could have up their sleeves that could possibly top Fallout 4.
The answer?
Well, a lot of things can top that single announcement. And that is exactly what Bethesda brought to the table, a lot.
They opened the conference in a spectacular fashion — revealing the newest entry in one of the most revered franchises in gaming, Doom. The footage shown highlights that — as it should be — Doom is going to be as straight forward as things get: kill demons in increasingly gory ways.
The video highlights some very extreme close-quarters kills in which the player character literally rips demons in half with his bare hands. The game will also feature a variety of multi-player modes and, in a very exciting move, all copies of the game will ship with a full set of tools to allow players to create and share their own multi-player maps online across all available platforms.
Take a look at the trailer below.
The balls keeps on rolling cause it doesn’t stop there.
Dishonored was a 2012 first-person stealth game that took the world by storm, giving you unparalleled freedom to approach your objectives in any way you best see fit and created one of the most lively game worlds in recent memory; your actions shaping the world around you ways both big and small.
The game will see the return of the first game’s protagonist — Corvo Attano — once again thrust into a desperate fight to take back the Empire from outside invaders. The game promises the same non-linear level design and also will allow players to select to play as the young Empress, Emily Kaldwin — who fans of the first game will recall spending a great deal of time trying to save from the various conspirators trying to take the throne from her.
While the trailer shows us little of Corvo, the new powers at Emily’s disposal will indeed make the Empress a force to be reckoned with. Check out her sweet moves in the trailer.
But of course the big fish for the show is Fallout 4.
If you’ll recall in my analysis of the trailer, I theorized — at an introduction level — for the game set in the pre-war days. The footage shown during the E3 conference confirms this; showcasing the games amazingly versatile character creation engine before sending the characters off into the world and eventually into the depths of Vault 111, from which you will emerge two hundred years later as the soul survivor of the vault.
The main focus of the Fallout 4 section of conference was the game’s highly versatile crafting system, every item you find in the game will be able to be broken down to it’s base components which can then be used to create over 700 customized weapons and armour or to build settlements throughout the wasteland The Sims style.
Not only that, but a Fallout-themed Sim game entitled Fallout Shelter went live on the Apple App Store immediately following the end of the conference. The collectors edition of the game will ship with a life sized Pip-Boy computer that you can fit your phone inside and download the Pip-Boy app that will be launched with the game that will allow players to view all their stats and sub menus over their phone.
The release date given for Fallout 4 is November 10th of this year, right in time for the Holiday season.
