Today in Marvel movie news, Screen Daily is reporting that Doctor Strange will begin filming in the UK in 2015. Although neither Marvel nor Disney have confirmed the story, Screen Daily claims that they are negotiating with UK’s Pinewood-Shepperton studios to begin production in May 2015 for a release date in July 2016. Marvel has a strong history with Pinewood-Shepperton having just finished filming Avengers: Age of Ultron there and working with their Atlanta location to film the upcoming Ant-Man. If the rumors that Marvel is kicking off production next May, that would mean big changes are in store for the cinematic universe.
The Marvel cinematic U got a lot bigger when Guardians of the Galaxy introduced a whole new set of cosmic characters this summer, but the introduction of Doctor Strange would mean that fans would start to see mystic and magical elements integrated into the universe as well. With Scott Derrickson, the director of Sinister, attached to the project Doctor Strange is guaranteed to delve deep into mystical realms. On top of that, there are rumors that Joaquin Phoenix may star as Steven Strange; that coupled with Marvel’s confirmation that the movie will not be an origin story, all points to an exciting and intense look at the mystic side of Marvel.
