Disney Announces New ‘Star Wars’ Animated Series

We were pretty bummed when Lucasfilm announced the recent cancellation of Clone Wars, but never fear Star Wars fans! Disney has announced a new series, Star Wars Rebels, set to release Fall 2014.

Rebels will take place in the two decades between Episodes III and IV when the “Empire is fortifying its hold on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion is taking shape.” This specific time frame is one that has not yet been visioned for the big or small screen, meaning we will more than likely receive a good dose of some familiar (and favorite) faces.

The show will begin with a one-hour premiere composed by Simon Kinberg, who is also an executive producer for the new show. Kinberg’s first introduction to the Star Wars mix occurred fairly recently when he and Lawrence Kasdan announced they would be working on the standalone films, which are currently being developed. Dave Filoni is also involved with the new series as an executive producer along with Kinberg and Greg Weisman.

What more can we expect from the latest animated series? We are anticipating a first real peek at the Star Wars Rebels during this year’s Star Wars Celebration, being held in Germany from July 26th through the 28th. Until then, here’s a video of Pablo Hidalgo discussing Rebels with none other than Dave Filoni himself!
