DC Announces Justice League Canada at Fan Expo

DC always puts on a good show at their panels, but this year us Canadians got a special treat as DC announced at their All Access panel that we will soon be able to feast our eyes and wallets on Justice League of Canada, written by Toronto native Jeff Lemire with art by Mike McKone.

1377282131652But don’t get excited about the idea of a new team of Canadian superheroes interacting with the staples we already know, this is still the Justice League of America line-up, but the title is being renamed as the team relocates up North following the events of the current DC arc, Forever Evil. Their headquarters will be at James Bay and Moosonee in Northern Ontario and the city-destroying action will be out of Toronto.

Lemire promised the book will showcase Canada’s multicultural nature as well, and I trust him not to make us out to be stereotypes of Canadian culture playing hockey and sleeping in igloos. In the first two issues alone our heroes visit Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver, so look for all your favorite local landmarks to make an unregistered appearance.

A new character will be introduced with the move though as Lemire said Adam Strange makes his return to the New 52 as a teenager from Toronto.

The panel wasn’t all talk about Justice League Canada though. Lemire also discussed one of his other titles, Green Arrow, and said fans of the show Arrow should make sure they pick up Arrow #25 as it marks the comic book debut of the TV show character Diggle.

Tony Daniel was also on hand to discuss the new Superman/Wonder Woman book coming out in October that he’s illustrating. Daniel described the title as one of DC’s first attempts to target a female audience, by having more romance mixed in with the title’s drama and action. He also made the groan inducing comment that DC wanted to tap into the Twilight readership. I’m torn about my feelings on this, because I appreciate that DC is acknowledging they have and want more female readers (unlike some comic book creators who refuse to acknowledge our existence *cough* Todd McFarlane *cough*) but I’m very much against having all of us female readers shoe-horned into the category of “those people who like Twilight”. But the art looked good and the story might be great. I won’t pass judgment until I see a finished product

I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt here DC, don’t let me down.
