Coming Soon: Wolfenstein: The New Order
The computer games that came out in the 90’s set a precedent for what was to come in gaming. First player shooter games were the thing to play and a lot of those original series’ have had many extremely successful relaunches over the years on many different consoles, including titles like Doom, Grand Theft Auto, Duke Nukem, and of course, my personal favorite, Wolfenstein.
On May 20th, North America will receive the new installment in the Wolfenstein series entitled “The New Order” from Bethesda and Machine Games.
In this installment of the series, in a “Watchmen” type twist, the story takes place in a world where The Nazis have won World War 2. Set in 1960s Europe, famed character of the series B.J. Blazkowicz returns to kick some Nazi ass, infiltrating Nazi strongholds and battling legions of enemies while taking control of “super weapons” that the Nazis have used to dominate Earth.
Years after the events of Wolfenstein, agent Blazkowicz has suffered from amnesia he received at the height of the war due to a secret mission gone awry. For 14 years he has resided in an asylum and after escaping, he finds a harsh new world controlled by a more advanced “old” enemy. The game will be available for PC, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, XBox 360 and XBox One – so whatever your console is chances are you will be able to rock this game.
In addition, something cool that they are doing is by pre-ordering Wolfenstein: The New Order, you will also gain buyers access to the Doom beta. Doom (previously named Doom 4) is the latest installment in the Doom series and is being developed by id Software.
This is easily going to be the best Wolfenstein game yet, and I rarely get excited for video games, but it looks like it will be setting a new standard in graphics as well as interesting plot lines in video games. We have come a long way from the 1981 release and the 1992 re-launch, but the idea still holds up, and probably will for many more installments to come.
Wolfenstein: The New Order will be released on May 20th, 2014. Pre-order your copy today!
